Mother's Day
May 14th, 2017

Bring Mom out to enjoy a beautiful spring day at Indian Steps.

We will be serving muffins and non-alcoholic mimosas in the kiva to honor those special ladies!

Light music on the steps by Amanda Wells of Fire In The Glen (Susquehanna river native & guitarist).

11am Self defense clinic by Kim's Karate Shrewsbury and George Kapterian senior master instructor.

Afternoon with Animals
Sunday, June 4th, 2017

1pm - Tracie Young from Raven Ridge Wildlife Center will be here with several of her wild animal co-presenters. Get up close and personal with these amazing creatures and discover how important they are to our ecosystem as well as to the Native peoples that once lived here.

2pm - Dennis Hertzog from the Susquehanna Beekeepers Association will present a fascinating glimpse into the life of the all-important honeybee. If you've ever thought about starting a colony for fun or profit, this is the place to BEE!

12 - 3pm - The Kilby Cream MooMobile will be here. Enjoy a free scoop of Cecil County's finest homemade ice cream.

$7 admission at the gate includes Museum access

York County Made in America Tour
June 15th - 17th, 2017

York County, PA is a treasure trove of history, unique museums, and factory tours. Indian Steps is a not-to-be missed stop on a fun day's journey into the county's heritage.

June 17, 1:00 pm - Mike Dixon, noted local historian, will be here to present a lively and informative talk about the canals of the lower Susquehanna River (one of which, runs right though the Indian Steps property).

Canals were once visionary undertakings, providing more efficient transportation of goods and people. Examine the history of these waterways on the lower Susquehanna River with an insight into their function and impact on the landscape and neighboring communities as well as their final demise.

Father's Day
June 18th, 2017

11 am - 1 pm - Bring Dad out for a hot dog grilled up old-style in the Indian Steps outdoor kitchen!*

1 pm Kayak tour - Take Dad on an Indian Step's adventure!

Paddle Lake Aldred on the Susquehanna with Mark Sargable, experienced river man and tour guide. You'll experience all the natural beauty of the river and islands, birds, and wildlife, as well as some interesting bits of history in a leisurely 3-4 hour excursion.

Basic lesson for first time paddlers and all equipment provided. $50 per person.

Dog Days of Summer

Bring your dog to the Museum for a day of fun!*

VENDORS! HIKING! TREATS! Free event from 12pm - 4pm.

*Dogs are welcome on the trails and museum grounds. Does not include admission to the museum.

Saturday, August 12th - 6pm music, 7pm presentation

Learn about the ghosts of Indian Steps Museum in a presentation by a local paranormal society! Includes dinner and music.

$15 for museum members, $20 for non-members

Bivalves - Hidden Gems of the Susquehanna
Saturday, August 19th - 2pm - 4pm

Dive into the underwater environment of the Susquehanna with Mr. Keith Williams, Executive Director of NorthBay Adventure! We'll learn about the amazing biology and diversity of freshwater clams and mussels that live in our river, and then we'll go snorkeling to find them. This is a fantastic opportunity to learn from an expert and get your feet wet!

Equipment provided - $20/adults, $15/ages 10 - 18. Call to register.

Spirit Circle with Maggie Salter
Sunday, August 20th - 3pm - 5pm

Small group gathering on the lawn for a gallery style spirit circle with one of Pennsylvania's best psychic mediums. This is a very enjoyable way to contact and connect with our loved ones in spirit. Everyone will get a reading OR have the ability to ask a question for inspirational guidance.

Natives on the Susquehanna
Sunday, August 27th - 1:30pm - 2:30pm

Mr. Charlie Douts, local archaeologist, will share his experiences and photographs from the mid-century excavations of the large stockaded Susquehannock villages at the Strickler and Schultz sites near Washington Boro. He will also discuss the Murry site, one of the largest Shenk's Ferry villages ever unearthed.

Riverside Yoga
Sunday, September 24th 1pm - 1:45pm

$10 Attendance Fee

45-minute outdoor Yoga class overlooking the river and surrounded by the beauty of nature and local history!

Afterward, join a group for a walk/ light hike to the falls, enjoy nature by sitting out on the lawn (maybe even a picnic!) or travel back through time on a tour through the museum! Make a mini road trip out of it and arrange a carpool with community members or friends!


Lenapahoking: The original people of Eastern Pennsylvania
Saturday, September 23rd at 12 PM

Please join us as we welcome Juliene Osborne-McKnight to discuss the Lenapahoking, the original people of Eastern Pennsylvania. A visual and storytelling presentation that will focus on the lifestyle, beliefs and mythology of the Lenape people prior to European colonization.
Juliene Osborne-McKnight is Chair of Humanities at DeSales University where she teaches both Irish and Native American history, mythology and literature.
